If only we could see ourselves the way that God sees us. More reasonably, the way a loving parent, family member, dear friend or a child. Oh if we could hold a third of this self-perspective what our life could be. The incessant joy from within would flow forth and paint every street we touch gold. You would be the president of 7 different companies. You would not settle. You would take or create the exact job that you have dreamed of. Why? What would unlock this vitality? The daunting voices of self-doubt. The morbid termites of fear and low self-worth. Do not forget the bedeviled victim mentality. See, the ones who truly love us; they look at us as though we have super powers. Always encouraging us to rise up and triumph. To surprise ourselves, shoot our shot and be damn proud of what we did. If you have even one of these people in your life then please count yourself as blessed. Maybe take a quick second and give God a “Thank You” for that person. It is sad to say, but most never grow through life with the even a shadow of that kind of person. Most are haunted by quite the opposite. These are the voices of God. So, imagine if we could look at them and response with: “You are right. I am that. I am awesome. I am incredible. I do have this super power!” Question: Why the f### aren’t we?! Would we want our children thinking any thoughts other than these? Would we want them to see anything different than awesomeness in their reflection? No, dammit! We wouldn't. Then, again, why are we settling without this for ourselves? Only you can get honest with yourself and take a look within. You won’t find much different than what the next person is held back by. We think we are sooo different; all of us. We stand afar and judge. I’ll tell you what, I have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of men and women look at some of the ugliest aspects of their lives. We are not so different. Actually, we are more alike in out our defects than anything else. I have been told of the same fears by hundreds of different people. I have heard the same hurt. I have bent my ear to the same emotional pain. These fears and hurts came from within black and white skin. From within young and old. Republicans and Democrats. LGBTQ’s and heterosexual males and females. From Americans and immigrants. Addicts and alcoholics. Criminals and cops. The fears are the same. The hurt is the same. And finally, the longing for happiness identical. You and I are not so different.
